BOOK LOVERS DAY -- AUGUST 9TH

Books, Library, Read, Shelves, Shelf

August 9 is Book Lovers Day, an unofficial holiday that encourages people to pick up a book (or two) and spend the day reading. We often get confused between World Book Day but World Book Day is actually  an yearly event on April 23rd, organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to promote reading, publishing and copyright.

Book lovers day is a day for all those who love to read, National Book Lovers Day encourages you to find your favorite reading place, a good book (whether it be fiction or non-fiction) and read the day away. You can go to your local library and read an old favorite or get a new bookshelf or a new book. Those all are good ideas.

These types of days help us enjoy a little and have fun.Very few people now a days spend hours reading on a book.Yes people do read books but that time is now usually absorbed by electronics.

Let us take a step in history and how books have evolved. Here are some interesting facts:
1.The very first books used vellum (calf skin) for the book pages.
2. The book covers were made of wood and often covered with leather.
3. The books were fitted with straps.
4. Public libraries appeared in the Middle Ages.Public libraries often chained the books to a shelf or a desk to prevent theft.

Hope you are going to read a nice book today and have a good time!
